developed a set of priorities, including:

  • Bringing outdoor recreation-themed BIPOC organizations to the area as well as to attract BIPOC entrepreneurs in the outdoor industry.

  • Messaging at trailheads, on ski slopes, Nordic trails and other outdoor recreation venues welcoming diverse communities of visitors.

  • Nonprofit, local government and/or business programs aimed at facilitating outdoor experiences for BIPOC through grants or scholarship.

BLMCC Business Community
& Economic Opportunity

  • The Business Subcommittee worked with Garrett Diamon, collaborating to create a JEDI based initiative within the hiring processes in the community.

  • A two part Infographics series called “Why Diversity Matters - Important JEDI facts for businesses on Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion”

  • A survey was conducted in the Fall of 2020. Sent to all CB/Mt.CB Chamber Members. The intention was to feel the pulse of the business community and to understand how our subcommittee could best tailor our efforts.

BLMCC Local Government

  • Marshal uniforms black to blue

  • A specific statement was added to town policies that discrimination against citizens will not be tolerated.

  • Complaint system overhaul with marshals not to investigate themselves in the situation of a serious issue including possible bias; all written complaints go directly go to HR/town manager.

  • Lodging a complaint against marshals formalized and made easier and safe as possible

BLMCC Education

  • JEDI Training for Gunnison Watershed School District and Juvenile Services for a total of sixteen 90-minute sessions.

  • Under contract with Gunnison Hinsdale County Early Childhood Education for Equity Labs.

  • Collaboration with the League of Woman Voters, Gunnison Rotary Club, and KBUT Radio Station.

  • Uncomfortable Conversations Forum which included the Chief Marshall and Town Staff in an effort to bring awareness to the importance of DEI Training.

  • Painted Elk Avenue with a Black Lives Matters street Mural.

  • Crested Butte Town Council signed a declaration to be anti-racist and condemn racism and hatred.

  • Held the first-ever Juneteenth celebration in Crested Butte.

  • Two BIPOC-led groups performed in the 2022 Alpenglow Concert Series

  • Crafted and mission and vision statement tailored to our community’s values.
