An anti-racist ski town

The Melanin Mountain Project aims to create a positive social framework that supports Black community members in Crested Butte, respecting and understanding their unique individual culture, as well as their complex social, economic, and political circumstances.

Through the fostering of education, outreach, and understanding in the Crested Butte Community and Gunnison Valley, the Melanin Mountain Project endeavors to raise collective cultural awareness of the black experience and enhance the black cultural literacy of our community members.

This enables our black community members to recognize themselves
as valued and sacred individuals in the eyes of our community.

The Melanin Mountain Project strives to cultivate a culture of empathy
and cultural literacy, creating a community that is open to people of color, their unique perspectives, and industries. The goal of the Melanin Mountain Project is not solely to "bring Black visitors to Crested Butte,"
but rather to foster an environment where Black visitors feel validated, understood, and valued.

Ultimately, the Melanin Mountain Project seeks to establish Black roots
in the Alpine, allowing the Black Community to thrive.
